Big Yellow Blobs and the Box That Buzzes – Find out more
A Light Up The North SHINE artwork
An interactive, immersive artwork designed to transport viewers into an alternate, whimsical reality.
This surreal playground is filled with spectacle, illusion, and a hearty dose of silliness, encouraging a communal sense of playfulness among its audience.
By engaging with the installation through touch, sight and sound, participants become part of the artwork itself. Emphasising the joy of play, this piece is a fun experience where art meets the absurd, inviting everyone to join in the fun and embrace the weirdness.
Matt Tully is a designer and maker from Sheffield whose work delves into the world of play and its influence on design, performance, and culture. Leveraging his experience as a set builder and prop maker, along with his passion for storytelling, he creates surreal and often whimsical spaces or events for viewers to explore through play. Matt is particularly interested in how play can be used to develop visual vocabularies to aid with expression, learning, and communication. He explores such concepts through his work with the national theatre’s ‘SpeakUp’ schools program and as an associate practitioner with the pioneering theatre company, Imitating the Dog.
Light Up the North is a network of light festivals who work together to support new talent and to bring light artworks to a wider audience.
The SHINE programme aims to nurture and develop new talent, giving artists the opportunity to exhibit or perform new work at Light Up The North festivals.
There will be one further opportunity to see ‘Big Yellow Blobs’ again, at Barnsley Bright Nights event on 22nd and 23rd November.
